In Brazil, MACS has supported SISAR-Sobral (www.sisar.org.br), a local association of user based rural water supply systems in the Northeastern State of Ceara, to set up a real-time monitoring system, based on the MACS wSmart application (macsbrasil.com.br/wsmart/). The necessary investment in flow and pressor sensors for six villages were financed with support from water.org (water.org), a global Charity for water and Sanitation. Through this investment a significant reduction of water losses was achieved and enhanced supply stability even in times of water stress. The energy savings that came along with the water savings did not only reduce the operation costs but also diminished the systems CO2 footprint. SISAR plans to extend the real time monitoring to many other village systems in the future.
