Worldwide: Tool for Assessing Adaption in the NDC

In the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015, all signatory states committed themselves to national climate contributions, the so-called Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).

According to the Paris Accord, new NDCs are to be submitted every five years, whereby these are to be more ambitious in each case.

MACS Energy & Water has been commissioned by GIZ to support the development of an online tool that allows to analyse and compare the adaptation content of the NDCs, the increase in ambition of updated or new NDCs while including also complementary data such as climate vulnerabilities or adaptation readiness. The Tool for Assessing Adaptation in the NDCs (TAAN) is part of the AdaptationCommunity.net. Against the background of the upcoming update of the NDCs leading up to the COP 26 in November 2021, the tool offers the potential to track and present the increase in ambition of the NDCs and thereby influence the climate negotiations.
