Kenya: Assessment of Impact Investor Products for the Kenyan Flower Sector

The GIZ programme “Development Partnerships with the Private Sector in Africa” in Kenya identified the flower sector as a potential sector for the use of renewable energy in the country. In May 2014, a cooperation between the GIZ, the Kenya Flower Council (KFC) and the County Pension Fund (CPF) was established. In this sector a large potential for Impact Investors have been identified. The aim of this cooperation is to provide targeted capital for the implementation of Solar-PV and biogas projects.

MACS was assigned by GIZ to analyze their service provision and assistance to impact investors in Kenya. The project is implemented within the framework of the Project Development Program, managed by GIZ. MACS provided an independent assessment and appraisal of GIZ work and the cooperation, providing the GIZ-internal evaluation with information about the market potentials for the GIZ and also the involvement of the German solar sector in this initiative.
