PERU: Supporting the Digitalization of Operational Records at SEDALIB

Supporting the Digitalization of Operational Records at SEDALIB's Pumping Stations

Under the Non-Revenue Water Reduction Programme (PRPA II), SEDALIB, S.A., with the support of MACS Energy and Water GmbH’s institutional strengthening team, has successfully completed a pilot project to digitally record operational parameters at pumping stations in Trujillo’s water supply system. The pilot was conducted on 8, 9 and 10 September 2026, with the aim of replacing traditional paper logbooks with a digital form designed to improve operational processes. Ahead of the pilot, on 7 September, participating operators received training on how to use the new digital tool.

During the three-day pilot, shift operators at the Wichanzao, Florencia de Mora and Miguel de la Cuba pumping stations independently recorded key parameters, including volume, flow rate and pressure, as well as inspections, observations and incidents, directly using their mobile phones. The consultant reviewed the records daily to assess their quality and completeness. The initiative also included change management activities to assess operators’ acceptance of and adaptation to the new way of working, moving away from a process previously based on handwritten logbooks without a standardised daily recording system.

The digital tool is expected to centralise and automate operational information, reduce errors and data loss, improve traceability, and facilitate monitoring by the Senior Infrastructure Engineer. The pilot also demonstrated operators’ willingness to adopt new working methods. As a next step, SEDALIB will analyse the results, including compliance levels, user feedback, connectivity issues and overall user acceptance, to refine the form before rolling it out across all its pumping stations. This initiative marks a further step in PRPA II’s efforts to strengthen SEDALIB’s institutional and operational capabilities and contribute to more efficient and reliable drinking water services.
